Draft writing plans for the joint curriculum
Date/Time: 20 October 2025,
Format: Online meeting
Brief Summary
The CDHVR consortium held an online meeting on 20 October to gather partner input on joint curriculum development and to finalize the “Curriculum Development — Draft” writing plan. Partners agreed on a shared roadmap and confirmed that the drafting process will follow simulation best-practice standards and an iterative On-the-Fly approach to development, implementation, and evaluation.
Key Outcomes
- Writing plan approved: Section leads were assigned for Purpose & Scope, Learning Outcomes, Teaching & Assessment Design, VR/Haptics Integration, and Quality Assurance.
- Methodology: Activities will align with Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice (design, prebrief, debrief, operations).
- Iterative development: The team will use 4-week On-the-Fly mini-cycles (Implement → Measure → Adjust → Scale) to refine the draft with real user feedback and performance data.
- Version control: A shared Google Drive is set up with naming/versioning rules for collaborative editing and tracked changes.
Roadmap
- Weeks 1–2: First draft sections (v0.1) + initial mastery rubric criteria.
- Weeks 3–4: Internal peer review; revise to v0.2.
- End of Month: Consolidated Draft v1.0 with diagrams/flowcharts.
- Following Month: Small-scale try-outs of scenarios and assessment tools; mini-report and revisions guided by the standards.
Why this matters
This plan embeds recognized simulation standards and an evidence-based, adaptable model that has been successfully used to integrate haptic training into undergraduate dental curricula (e.g., QMUL), emphasizing deliberate practice and iterative improvement.
